Charlie D

There was a victory for Charlie D in his last race and because of that, he got slapped with a 5lb penalty. That victory came at Southwell in a 1m 6f trip where he beat Harbour Front by a two and a half lengths.

He has stacks of winning experience from 1m 4f to 2m 1f and this is just going to be about how well he handles the weight.

Charlie D has won on the fibresand before and the bold runner is at 2/1 odds for the win* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 18:54 GMT on Thursday, March 5th 2020).

Hooflepuff
7/2

William Hill

Fearless Warrior

Fearless Warrior was last seen at Kempton in a two mile trip last month. He was third there but only by three-quarters of a length as he couldn’t stay on.

So this cut back in distance may just be ideal for him and certainly has interesting claims at 11/4 odds* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 18:54 GMT on Thursday, March 5th 2020).

Hooflepuff

Hooflepuff heads to Wolverhampton on the back of a victory. He claimed a win on the course at a shorter 1m 4f distance at class 5 in early February. So he is taking a step up in class for this one.

It’s been a total of three wins on the all-weather that he has taken in his career. Not only is this is a step up in class but this will be his first crack at the longer 1m 6f trip but has been well supported at 4/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 18:54 GMT on Thursday, March 5th 2020)

Glan Y Gors

Another entrant with claims following a victory is Glan Y Gors. He beat Archive by three-quarters of a length in his last run, which was at Newcastle over a 1m 4f trip last month. He has claimed 4 wins on the all-weather from 1m 2f to 1m 4f in his career. His recent success was at a lower grade in a class 5 contest as was 11/2 in race odds on Thursday evening.

The rest of the runners

Blue Medici was highly disappointing on his last run. Following a victory at Wolverhampton at the 1m 4f distance in November, he went out the following month and was 9th of 15 at Lingfield at the same distance. He has more experience at class 4 than most in this field, however.

Never Surrender doesn’t have great claims here with a second from last finish at Kempton last month. It’s been a long time since the six-year-old found himself in the winner’s enclosure.

Running Cloud following a victory at course and distance in January, was 5th of 9th back at C&D barely a week later. He was well beaten in that one off the same rating as he was for his win.

Zabeel Star looks as if he is going to struggle in this kind of company on Friday. He was fourth out of 11 in his last flat race from an 18/1 mark. That was his best performance for some considerable time.

Predictions & Tips

Charlie D looked good in his last run to claim his victory and we would have to lean towards him as the pick, despite some very interesting claims elsewhere.

He is good enough to defy his 5lb penalty.

Fearless Warrior is a keen runner but has just come up short recently. But Hooflepuff, taking on the slightly longer trip does have some very nice appeal at the price.
