When and where is US Open Tennis 2021?

As usual, the US Open is being hosted at the famous Flushing Meadows in New York. This is the 131st edition of the tournament.

For the first time since the 2011 French Open, there is neither Serena nor Venus Williams in a Grand Slam draw.

The Women’s Final is set for August 11th, 20201.

The US Open Reigning Champion is Naomi Osaka who claimed the title at Flushing Meadows for the second time in her career last year.

Her breakthrough success came in an emotional 2018 success over Serena Williams, a match largely remembered for Williams’ outbursts against the referee.

Osaka is a quote of 11/2 in US Open tennis betting to successfully defend her crown* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill)

There has not been a tremendous amount of playing time produced by Osaka this year. She did step away from the game for a break.

Early defeats at the Olympics and then on the hard courts of Cincinnati recently, raises a question or two about her chances at the US Open.

US Open Top 10 Seeds

  • Ashleigh Barty
  • Aryna Sabalenka
  • Naomi Osaka
  • Karolína Plíšková
  • Elina Svitolina
  • Bianca Andreescu
  • Iga Świątek
  • Barbora Krejčíková
  • Garbiñe Muguruza
  • Petra Kvitová

US Open Tennis Odds Favorite

Ashleigh Barty is the current 7/2 favourite in US Open Tennis Betting* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

Barty is the world number one and has been in Grand Slam winning form this season. Barty picked up the title at Wimbledon earlier this year for her career Slam title.

That added to her French Open success in 2019.

Given that Barty arrives in New York fresh off a title win at the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open, she rates as a big danger.

There has not been much form produced before at the US Open by Barty.

In five previous appearances in the draw, she has never been past the round of sixteen.

Given her current standing, Barty who has now won two of the last three tournaments she has entered rates a huge threat.

Can Sabalenka soar to the title?

There’s little doubt about the standing of Aryna Sabalenka in the game.

She’s an absolute powerhouse and that Grand Slam breakthrough looks likely to happen sooner rather than later.

The Belarusian is up to second in the world and is a 12/1 quote in US Open tennis betting* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

She has gone off the boil a little bit since reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon in July.

There were early exits at the Olympics and the cent Western & Southern Open.

Sandwiched in between those two tournaments, Sabalenka did reach the final four of WTA 1000 Montreal.

Punters will want to have seen a bit more hard court form from her perhaps.

But she is on the up in the game, after reaching the Round of 16 for the first time at the Australian Open this year, then that first Grand Slam semi happening at Wimbledon.

Our betting prediction:
Aryna Sabalenka Outright
12/1

Iga Swiatek a quiet force

Poland’s Iga Swiatek is another who is just looking for a little bump of form.

Things have gone quiet for her since a Quarter-Final exit at the French Open.

A First Round exit in Cincinnati on her latest effort was disappointing.

But the 2020 French Open winner has reached the Round of 16 in all but one of her last six Grand Slam appearances.

She’s likely as strong of a dark horse US Open tennis betting pick as you’re likely to find at 14/1* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

Can Krejcikova continue stunning in 2021?

Three titles have come the way of Barbora Krejcikova this year. For someone who hasn’t been on the tennis betting radar a year ago, she’s come a long way.

Krejcivoka is a 16/1 punt in tennis betting for the US Open 2021* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

She stunned the field to win the French Open this year and then reached the Round of 16 at Wimbledon.

The Czech player will be making her US Open debut. Granted, two of her three titles this year have been on clay.

But a Prague title on the Hard Court in July and a Quarter-Final finish at the WTA1000 Western & Southern Open suggests that she could be in this.

Last 10 US Open Winners

  • 2020 Naomi Osaka
  • 2019 Bianca Andreescu
  • 2018 Naomi Osaka
  • 2017 Sloane Stephens
  • 2016 Angelique Kerber
  • 2015 Flavia Pennetta
  • 2014 Serena Williams
  • 2013 Serena Williams
  • 2012 Serena Williams
  • 2011 Sam Stosur

Others to note:

Spain’s PAULA BADOSA is one to watch in the draw as she’s had a very good year.

The 23-year-old is on the up and this year has made the Quarter Final at Roland Garros and the last 16 at Wimbledon.

BIANCA ANDREESCU has had a difficult year with injuries. There’s been no from her on the Hard Court. She is a former US Open champion, however, winning the title in 2019.

KAROLINA PLISKOVA still hasn’t managed to get that elusive Grand Slam title.

She arrives in top form, however, with a runner up spot at WTA 1000 Montreal and then a semi-final exit in Cincinnati.

Pliskova is a danger from 14/1* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

America’s DANIELLE COLLINS has had a terrific year, winning a couple of titles. The most recent of those was in San Jose in early August on a Hard Court. She comes into the draw as reasonable each-way play for tennis betting.

British hopes in US Open tennis betting

EMMA RADUCANU and KATIE BOULTER have both qualified for the US Open for the first time.

Raducanu, who made a stunning run to the Fourth Round on her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon this year (as a wildcard) is a quote of 100/1 to win outright* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

That is the same quote as British number one Johanna Konta who is set to appear in New York. Konta has been troubled by injury for most of the year.

US Open Tennis Betting Predictions 2021

The front runner is Ashleigh Barty at 7/2 and we can’t argue with that* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

Despite not having the previous form at Flushing Meadows, the Aussie looks to be the one to beat in this year’s field. She arrives in form and should go close.

Aryna Sablaanka has a lot of appeal at a longer 12/1 quote in US Open tennis betting* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

She looks as if she just needs to get a little bit of momentum going again, which can be earned through the early rounds.

As a long pick for success, we are pulling towards Danielle Collins as someone who could spring a surprise from a quote of 33/1* (odds recorded at 23:32 GMT on August 27th, 2021 at William Hill).

Collins has been having a bit of a career year and was a semi-finalist in the Australian Open 2019 for a bit of Grand Slam Hard Court form.
