World Grand Prix Darts betting tournament info

The World Grand Prix Darts does bring something a little different to the table than all of the other televised events in the sport.

That is because this is a “Double In, Double Out” tournament, which means players have to start a leg by hitting a double.

The format just adds that extra bit of jeopardy and difficulty for the players.

The draw is separated by seeded sections, so it’s possible to plot a potential chart through the brackets of the draw.

Our betting prediction:
Gerwyn Price
3/1

Can Van Gerwyn defend his crown?

Michael van Gerwen took the title in Leicester last year, as he got the better of surprise finalist Dirk van Duijvenbode 5-2 in the final.

That was the fifth World Grand Prix title for Van Gerwen and the first time that he had managed to successfully defend the title at the tournament.

There has not been a title for the Dutchman in any televised darts tournaments this season.

Mighty Mike’s best results in televised events have seen him fall at the semi-finals in the Premier League Darts, World Matchplay and the UK Open.

So he has been more beatable this season than most would think. It leaves the great Dutchman with only two televised titles since the start of 2020.

Van Gerwen, who is third seed for the tournament, is 9/2 in World Matchplay Darts betting* (odds recorded at 19:54 GMT on 10/3/21 at Boylesports).

There is the potential of a quarter-final clash against Gary Anderson to come at the tournament for Van Gerwen.

To Win Quarter One Darts Betting Odds

Gerwyn Price the FAV in World Grand Prix Darts Betting

Gerwyn Price has had a good season, the highlight of which was landing the PDC World Championship for the first time.

The Welshman is the top seed in Leicester and looks to have a fairly comfortable draw ahead of him.

The top-seeded player he could meet in his quarter is 8th seed Dave Chisnall.

Price has reached at least the semi-finals in four of his five televised darts tournaments this season.

He will be disappointed at not having added more titles, but he’s arguably the one to beat.

Price enters as the 7/2 favourite in World Matchplay Darts betting* (odds recorded at 19:54 GMT on 10/3/21 at Boylesports).

Given that Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson are all in the opposite half of the draw, the Welshman should have a chance.

To Win Quarter Two Darts Betting

Dimitri van den Bergh 11/4
Luke Humphries 3/1
Stephen Burgin 4/1
James Wade 9/2
Damon Heta 17/2
Ryan Searle 9/1

Can Peter Wright rule in Leicester?

Wright’s best previous effort in the World Grand Prix was as losing finalist in the 2018 edition.

He has not made it past the second round in his latest two attempts.

However, “Snakebite” has come up with notable pieces of form this season, winning two televised tournaments, the World Matchplay and the World Cup of Darts.

He was also a losing semi-finalist at the Masters. So that puts him in it. Wright is in second place but there’s no easy draw ahead.

He could see Nathan Aspinall in the second round and then either Jose de Sousa or Glen Durrant in the quarters.

Further down the road, he would have to get past Michael van Gerwen or Gary Anderson in the semis.

It’s a tough draw down there, but Wright is 5/1 to come out on top* (odds recorded at 19:54 GMT on 10/3/21 at Boylesports).

To Win Quarter Three Darts Betting Odds

Peter Wright 2/1
Jose De Sousa 3/1
Jonny Clayton 4/1
Nathan Aspinall 13/2
Krzysztof Ratajski 9/1
Rob Cross 12/1

Other Names To Note for Darts betting

From the top half of the draw, STEPHEN BUNTING may be worth a look. He’s from that second quarter which would feed into a potential semi-against Gerwyn Price.

That second quarter of the draw is wide open and the former World Youth Masters winner reached the semi’s on his World Grand Prix debut in 2014. Bunting made the final four at this year’s World Championship.

With MVG and GARY ANDERSON both in the fourth quarter, there’s just going to be an epic duel between them down there. MVG is 11/8 with Anderson at 4/1 to win the 4th quarter in darts betting* (odds recorded at 19:54 GMT on 10/3/21 at Boylesports).

Anderson’s previous best finish at the World Grand Prix was a losing finalist spot in 2016. He has made at least the quarter-finals in four of his last six tournament entries.

JOSE DE SOUSA is entering just his second World Grand Prix event. He lost in the first round last season.

But the Portuguese could be a dangerous floater in the draw having landed the Grand Slam Of Darts title last year and having reached the final of the Premier League Darts in 2021.

To Win Quarter Four Darts Odds

Michael van Gerwen 11/8
Gary Anderson 4/1
Brendan Dolan 7/1
Ian White 8/1
Gabriel Clemens 8/1
Vincent Van Der Voort 16/1
Danny Noppert 16/1

World Grand Prix Darts Betting Predictions

The draw is just set up so nicely for top seed Gerwyn Price that it is hard to ignore his chances of landing the title in this one.

Price is a firmly justifiable 7/2 favourite in darts betting and the one to beat* (odds recorded at 19:54 GMT on 10/3/21 at Boylesports).

There doesn’t appear to be any major hurdles for him between the first round and the semi-finals at all, so he should be in this.

The bottom half of the draw is just stacked with major contenders. Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Jonny Clayton, Jose de Sousa and Glen Durrant are all down there.

It’s a tremendously competitive fixture. We think that the 11/8 on MVG to win the 4th Quarter is viable* (odds recorded at 19:54 GMT on 10/3/21 at Boylesports).

But it is Peter Wright who looks the better value out of all the big players down in the bottom half of the draw to come through and sweep the title from 5/1 as he’s got some proven from in televised events this year* (odds recorded at 19:54 GMT on 10/3/21 at Boylesports).
