Shan shows her quality in first live show

Novelty Betting & Other Events Betting

It’s a toss-up over what generated most headlines from the first weekend of live shows at X Factor 2018.

Was it Shan Ako’s emotional rendition of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ or the rumour that Robbie Williams may leap off the judges’ table to perform with old buddies Take That on finals night?

Shan, from Croydon, has been elevated for favourite for X Factor following her performance in front of a live audience. The 25-year-old from Croydon has worked in the music industry since she graduated from Middlesex University but she’s been behind the scenes until now, including a short stint as a session singer. She does look better qualified than most of the acts around her and only Betway are prepared to stick their heads above the parapet about her winning the final, offering 2/1.

Misunderstood were the favourites going into the first live show but Shan’s performance and a fairly weak showing from the South London duo have seen them drift alarmingly in the betting. They are determined to stick with self-penned works but the definitive novelty factor is beginning to war thin and Jeff and Stefan are out to a general 13/2.

Dalton Harris did a passable job with an abridged version of David Bowie’s iconic ‘Life On Mars’ and has maintained his position in the market (also a best 13/2) but ex-boyband member Brendan Murray’s hopes of forging a solo career via X Factor suffered a blow when Simon Cowell described his performance of Ariana Grande’s ‘Break Free’ as boring. The Dubliner, who is training to be a plumber, has drifted out to 8/1 with Betway and you can probably get bigger odds elsewhere if you shop around.

Janice Robinson had to survive a sing-off to last another week and is now a general 100/1 to win the final with punters also deserting Giovanni Spano.
