He is coming down in trip and class for this one and is versatile enough to show well here for trainer Charlie Appleby who is in good form at the moment.

COMMUNIQUE showed good from claiming a second place finish in a Group 2 event at Newmarket last week.

He wasn’t far away in that one and it was a clear return to form after some indifferent efforts since renewal. He should be a major player.

UNIVERSAL ORDER warrants some respect in this one as well as he claimed a superb win over El Misk at Newmarket in a Listed race last month. It’s been five wins from 10 starts and can be kept on side.

We are not going to look through the entire field here of course. But the clear market favourite in York racing odds is CARADOC at 11/2* (betting odds taken from Betway at 18:22 GMT on Friday 17th July 2020).

He took 6th place on his reappearance at Epsom, but he was going much better than that. He just got caught too far back to challenge.

Easily should be on the shortlist for this race and one of his three wins last year was against Great Example.

Consistency is there for GREAT EXAMPLE to bring some claims. This will be his return to action after about 10 months away.

But he was coming on so strong that he was only narrowly beaten out by Caradoc in a Newbury handicap on his last effort. There’s a big chance of improvement and he claims 3lb for jockey Cieren Fallon.

HARROVIAN has been coming on well after taking a second on his reappearance. He went one better than with a score at Doncaster three weeks ago and he keeps the cheek pieces on for this one.

Frankie Dettori is in the saddle for the John Gosden-trained Harrovian. He has a chance and goes as our pick.

Last summer he claimed two course and distance handicap wins and then stormed to an easy win at Ayr on his reappearance last time out. That was in a Listed event.

Que Amoro goes up 3lb but looks a red hot pick at the moment.

EL ASTRONAUTE has some claims here after a win in Listed company at Doncaster, beating Tarboosh in the process after a 252 day break.

That was the third Listed victory that he has claimed now and he goes up 3lb.

But still, he warrants some big respect and the seven year old was a superb 3rd at the Prix De L’Abbaye De Longchamp (Group 1) in October.

We are taking a pass on EQUILATERAL and going for ALPHA DELPHINI as our third pick. In 2018 he scored a course and distance win.

He is coming back for the first time since injury, and it’s a big 14 month absence. But he’s a class act, shown in his second to Battaash in the Temple Stakes on last season’s return.

She will likely be happy back at this trip and put in a good effort at Ripon on her last run to claim third.

That was last week. She has course and distance claims too, winning the Queen Mother’s Cup last year.

ELECTOR has had a run under his belt, so that reappearance effort should help him out in this one. It was the first trip for 10 months and it was also his first run out for his new yard.

He won a couple of times under the eye of Sir Michael Stoute and he could be a big player here now as he looked like he needed that recent trip.

MAYFAIR SPIRIT is coming back up in class after finding a win at Windsor on his last effort.

He produced a really gritty show of strength in that one with some favorable weight on his side, he may well have a chance in a wide open field.

He only just missed out on a second score there last week, claiming third after a bit of trouble in the field.

TRIGGERED has been enjoying himself for his new yard, trained by Mark Loughnane. He has taken back to back fourth place finishes, but has shaped better than perhaps the places that he has taken. All in all he looks to be coming into some really hot form and is well worth respecting.

The other that we will consider is NORTH WIND who went well at Doncaster three weeks ago. He stays at the same mark and in this wide-open contest has a fair old chance of a score after only finding the progressive National Anthem too good in his last run.
