This is a cracking race to open the day with and it is the Bengough Stakes. DAKOTA GOLD is at the head of the market at 2/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020).

His most recent run was at Doncaster in September. He claimed a third place there over a 5f trip and that continued a very good season for him. He has been in the frame in each of his last three runs, scorin one in that sequence.

Dakota Gold is a three time course and distance winner, all of those happening last year. He looks to be in top form still and should enjoy the switch back to a 6f trip. He is the one to beat, so he goes as our pick.

York Racing Odds & Tips

SUMMERGHAND is usually worth a look. In the summer he got a high profile score at the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood.

Across these three runs since then he has been well in the frame without managing to add to his tally. Fourteen days ago was his last run, taking third after some problems at the Curragh.

More will be needed form BRAD THE BRIEF but he is well worth considering for the shortlist. He has been two wins from four runs this campaign.

The most recent of those was in August in a 6f listed trip at Newmarket. He needs something special again in a highly quality field, but place claims are there.

The renewal of the exciting Rockingham Stakes sees LEGAL ATTACK heading the market at 9/4* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020).

This will be his third racetrack appearance. He got off the mark right away on his debut, shrugging off any greenness to collect the score at Newmarket.

Legal Attack was then thrown straight into a Group 3 run in France and impressed once again to take runner up spot there.

York Racing Odds & Tips

REGIONAL looks to have a good bolt run in him as well. He opened his account on his debut at Pontefract back in July.

His follow up effort was in the Rosebery and he put in a superb run there to get fourth place. He earned a lot of credit for that performance and looks a threat coming into a 6f trip now.

We think that he’s the one to follow at 4/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020).

INTERNATOINALDREAM has produced the kind of form that is likely to see him get in the frame as well.

He was a third place finisher in the Molecomb. On an immediate switch back to a 6f trip he scored at Ripon.

It was a second place back at the same venue on his latest run. He comes in fresh from a 40-day break.

Race Favourite

It is ILARAAB sitting as a fairly commanding 3/1 favourite for this handicap action at York on Saturday* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020). It is certainly hard to argue with his form.

The Willie Haggas-trained colt is on a five-timer after improving rapidly. The fourth of that winning streak happened at Newbury in September under handicap terms.

Naturally he is going up the weights, and it’s 5lb more for him to deal with. It is perhaps surprising that it’s not a little bit more.

But regardless, he warrants some big respect even if he doesn’t do things by big margins. Ilaraab is the one to beat. Ilaraab is our pick.

York Racing Odds & Tips

CRYSTAL PEGASUS has produced a fine campaign. He has gotten better and better, culminating in a couple of scores at Bath and Yarmouth.

The latter happened in September. The Sir Michael Stoute trained colt is up 4lb in the rating. This will be his stiffest challenge yet but he is not to be discounted.

The final selection for this race to go on the shortlist is MATTHEW FLINDERS. There is no way that he can be ignored either.

He scored at Doncaster last month on a drop back to a 1m trip. In the closing stages he looked powerful and strong enough to handle this further trip. He’s still on the up and takes plenty of interest.

This is a very interesting and big field. Heading up the market for this Heritage Handicap is TRANCHEE at 15/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020). He has been there with his form.

A couple of runners up places was then supplemented by a score in a Doncaster handicap in September. He produced some nice speed to close that one out with as well.

So Tranchee is worth a look for the shortlist and handles the soft conditions well enough.

York Racing Odds & Tips

MAGICAL SPIRIT takes on a big 10lb rise in the ratings. That is because of the way that tore apart the field in the Ayr Silver Cup. It was a very impressive, bold run three weeks ago that he put in there.

In the end he ran away with it by more than three lengths over ADMIRALTY. The way that Magical Spirit produced there, he’s worth considering to shrug off that extra weight. From 10/1 he will go as our selection* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020).

There should be good claims from SOLDIER’S MINUTE as well. He too had a good run at the Ayr Silver Cup on his last run.

Soldier’s Minute went strongly with a front-running bid there and stayed on pretty well to get his finish. He has a good record at York to further strengthen his claims.

Race Favourite

The race favourite for this handicap in Race 7 is THE JAM MAN at 13/8* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020).

He has knocked on the door in his last two efforts. The most recent of those was less than a week ago.

So he has to overcome that quick turn around. He has scored nine times before in National Hunt action.

Even though he is 2lb out of the handicap he looks as if he should be a player here. The softer conditions underfoot should further boost his claims.

York Racing Odds & Tips

HOCHFELD could feature as well in this contest. He was fourth in a field of six in a Haydock handicap a couple of weeks ago. He never looked suited to the race really.

The result was a long way from his excellent score at Glorious Goodwood in a handicap. Hochfeld’s chances will be boosted by a 7lb claimer on his back.

EDDYSTONE ROCK may well now have tumbled far enough down the weights to sit at an attractive mark. He was sixth of 12 on his last run, a Chester handicap over 14/f a couple of weeks ago.

Eddystone Rock won four times last year. It hasn’t been as good from him in 2020, but should enjoy the extra trip.

It is VALYRIAN STEEL who is the 15/8 favourite for this contest* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020). He will be looking to extend his unbeaten record as he comes into action for the third time.

He opened on his debut at Newcastle and then recorded a very comfortable win at Beverley to follow up. Further progress is expected as he comes into handicapping now.

York Racing Odds & Tips

BARYSHNIKOV has to be considered for the shortlist here. He is bang in form having put together a string of hugely positive results.

That form has culminated in back to back wins.

The most recent of those was at Ayr, despite having left himself a lot to do. He is the pick at 7/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:37 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020).

SUCELLUS may be worth revisiting for this one. On his last trip he was fifth behind Bayshnikov at Ayr.

Before that he was third over course and distance here in a field of 19. He is up 1lb from that recent course and distance effort. Place claims should be there.
