HOW TO BET ON OTHER SPORTS - FORMULA ONE, BASKETBALL, ETC.
There are of course, many more sports around the world than we could ever cover in this Betting School. Take a glance at the sportsbook of any major online bookmaker and you will see that there is simply an abundance of markets, ranging from the most popular sports in the world like soccer, tennis and golf through to the more niche markets like handball, trotting, winter sports, floorball and swimming.
A lot of the same betting principles apply whether you are looking at Formula One or table tennis. You will always find the outright markets for a tournament or league to have a wager on, be it the F1 Drivers World Championship or the Olympic Gold in weightlifting. The markets will be there and you simply select an outright winner, or have an each way value bet on a contender, maybe. Here we take a glance at some of the popular markets for some of the other major sports from across the world.
Formula One
We have already mentioned the sport so we will take a closer look. F1 has for many become a very predictable sport. It is very rare that more than one or two drivers will be in contention for the World Championship. That narrows betting value in the outright winner market, but it does offer some value in the individual race betting for the Grands Prix across the season. What usually happens is that you find the same one or two drivers winning the majority of the races in the season. Usually it is the same team. So just look for things like 1-2 Finish for the drivers in the same team to finish a race, or a forecast.
Basketball
Punters look at a basketball season and may well think, let’s just pick the outright champion. That’s fair enough, but it’s not always the best way to approach sports betting. Basically, you are risking it all on one shot in becoming the NBA champions. By why not take a step back and look at other perhaps more valuable outright markets for the basketball season such as Conference winners first? There’s no harm really in waiting until you know the line ups for the knockout phase of the season before getting a wager down on the NBA Championship itself. A small sacrifice of odds yes, but you may be able to increase your chances of actually winning. Spread betting on basketball, backing a team to cover a point spread is hugely popular.
American Football
Much in the vein of our basketball betting guide, split the NFL season down in sections. There are the separate Division Winners to bet on, the Conference Winners and then the Super Bowl victors. Breaking a season down into manageable betting chunks is a great way to try and maximum profit from smaller, less risky bets than going for a Hail Mary and naming the Super Bowl winners before the season has started. It’s a long arduous season, and anything can happen. You will find a lot of money line spread betting (basically handicapping) on American Football betting, supremacy bets are often the way to go.
Baseball
The MLB baseball season will follow much in the same suit then as the MLB and the NFL. So too NHL Ice Hockey in that there is a long regular season broken up into divisions and then conference and then the Championship play offs. Don’t be too afraid to look for the smaller bets, this is often the better way to profit.
There are variations of bets and variations of strategies on how to play those bets across the many, many different sports out there. The best sports betting advice that we can give is to be patient and build your own systems and plans to work with. Then ease your way into a sports betting market with small stakes until you start seeing the returns from your strategies come back in profit, or whether you need to step back and tweak your strategy. The importance of studying form and reading as much information as you can, looking at stats and more cannot be stressed enough either.
