BARNSLEY v NOTTS CO – Pick: 2 AH+0.5 – 21 October 2014

Magpies to keep Tykes at bay

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Tuesday 21st October 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Barnsley’s inconsistent nature during the first couple of months in League One has them quite rightly placed in a mid-table position as they look to bounce back from an away defeat at Peterborough United on the weekend.

Barnsley went down 1-2 to The Posh, and despite being back at Oakwell for tonight’s match, their opponents Notts County are in good shape at the moment and currently occupy one of the play-off positions going into tonight’s encounter.

Barnsley’s overall home record has been hit-and-miss at  2-0-3  10/11 with wins over Gillingham and Bradford City, but have lost to Crawley Town, MK Dons and Swindon Town (the latter two clubs also in the top six).

Notts County have won their last three League One matches on the trot with wins over Crewe Alexandra 3-0 and home wins over Gillingham 1-0 and Crawley Town 5-3, and indeed The Magpies are unbeaten in their last seven overall.

This solid run of form has seen Shaun Derry’s side move steadily up the table and into one of the play-off positions and they’ve shown that they can hold their own against the top sides on the road as well.

Notts County have taken points off Preston North End, Peterborough United and Chesterfield (all of whom are in the top eight) on the road so far along with wins at Port Vale and Crewe giving them an overall away record of  2-3-0  7/2.

While Barnsley have been inconsistent both home and away, Notts County have tightened things up considerably under Derry with three clean sheets on their travels, so I’ll back the visitors with the handicap here as they should get at least a point at Oakwell tonight.
