BRENTFORD v CARLISLE – Pick: 1 – 10 November 2012

Brentford to edge The Cumbrians at Griffin Park

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 10th November 2012 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

Ninth placed Brentford will be looking to preserve their unbeaten home run to eight matches when Carlisle United visit their Griffin Park ground on Saturday afternoon.

Brentford have been solid on home turf this season having beaten Crewe Alexandra 5-1, Colchester United 1-0, Oldham Athletic 1-0, 4th placed Crawley Town 2-1 and Coventry City 2-1, and draws against Shrewsbury Town and Hartlepool United. Their one loss was to Yeovil Town 0-3 but that was way back in August, the second match of the season.

The Bees’ home record then stands at  5-2-1  14/8, and they’ve kept three clean sheets so far in front of their home crowd. Striker Clayton Donaldson (7 goals, 2 assists) is their leading scorer and he’s scored in his last two matches. Backing him up are Harry Forrester (4 goals, 2 assists) and midfielder Jonathan Douglas (3 goals) with Shaleum Logan (3 assists) and Adam Forshaw (4 assists) providing most of the creativity.

Visitors Carlisle United are just five points behind Brentford in League One, but The Cumbrians have won just once in their last six matches which was a 3-1 home win over 18th placed Oldham Athletic  and have tasted defeat recently against Notts County, Colchester United and AFC Bournemouth.

Carlisle’s away record stands at  3-3-2  9/10, and it’s interesting to note that they haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 22 away matches and this will certainly hand the edge to Brentford here in this one I feel.

Leading scorer is Joe Garner (5 goals) and he has former Everton forward Danny Cadamarteri (2 goals, 2 assists) and Jon-Paul McGovern (3 assists) assisting him. However, as likely as Carlisle United may be to scoring, they are even more likely to concede as their away form has testified in their last 22 matches.

I’ll back Brentford to outscore Carlisle today in what could end up a simple equation; I’ll therefore back The Bees to edge this one 2-1 to extend their unbeaten home run at Griffin Park.
