Bristol City secured another three vital points in their quest to return to the Championship last Tuesday night when they won 3-0 at home to Crewe Alexandra which has extend their lead at the top of League One to ten points.
That win was their sixth success from their last seven matches and they are now seemingly destined for the English second tier once again next season, having taken 19 points from the last possible 21 as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Gillingham recently. However, The Robins have been in dominant form overall at Ashton Gate this season racking up a record of 14-3-2 35/13 and just one defeat in their last ten matches on home turf.
They’ve recently beaten Port Vale, Peterborough United, Rochdale and Crewe Alexandra and in addition, have kept four clean sheets in their last four home matches. The attacking trio of Wilbraham, Agard and Freeman have been amongst the goals lately along with midfielder Emmanuel-Thomas.
Barnsley have dropped out of the play-off pack largely thanks to back-to-back draws recently against Leyton Orient and Preston North End, and they now sit one league place and one point adrift of Peterborough United.
However, Peterborough play host to Coventry City this weekend while Barnsley face another tough trip away at run-away League One leaders Bristol City despite having put together an eight-match unbeaten run going into this afternoon’s clash, while their overall away record stands at 6-4-9 17/25.
Barnsley are also unbeaten in their last four on their travels with wins at Scunthorpe United, Gillingham and Oldham Athletic as well as that point at Leyton Orient, but these points were accrued at bottom half opposition and they’ll have their work cut out at Bristol today I fancy.
The hosts are on a roll at the moment so I’ll back them to continue their winning momentum with perhaps a 1-0 win this afternoon.
