Tuesday night’s only League Two fixture features hosts Bury taking on Bristol Rovers at their Gigg Lane ground in a bottom half clash with both sides still needing further points to ensure League Two safety.
Looking at Bury first and the hosts have lost just once in their last seven which was a 1-2 loss away at bottom club Torquay United but they’ve tightened things up in recent weeks with a win away at Northampton Town 3-0 on Saturday along with holding promotion hopefuls Rochdale and Fleetwood Town to draws amongst five stalemates in these last seven matches.
At home, Bury have put together a useful eleven match unbeaten run which has staved off any immediate relegation worries although of these eleven matches, there have been a total of no fewer than eight draws! Their last four have also been draws, while their overall home record stands at 5-11-3 21/18 but they have kept seven clean sheets on home soil to date.
Bristol Rovers ended a run of four matches without a league win on Saturday when they overcame Morecambe in a 1-0 narrow home win at the Memorial Ground, but they face a tricky trip up north for the visit to Bury on Tuesday night.
Recent defeats to Dagenham & Redbridge, Hartlepool United and Fleetwood Town along with a draw against Southend United have left The Pirates just a few places above the relegation zone, still needing a few more points to guarantee their League Two safety.
Results away from home though has been Rovers’ Achilles heel all season and they go into tonight’s match having now gone eleven matches without an away win with an overall record on the road of a dismal 1-7-11 10/27 with just four clean sheets on their travels all season.
Bury’s solid home form (albeit littered with draws) gives me confidence to back them with the round ball tonight as another draw will at least refund our stake. Bury might just edge this perhaps 1-0.
