BURY v CARLISLE – Pick: 1 – 24 January 2015

Shakers to shrug off Cumbrians at Gigg Lane

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 24th January 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Bury will be keen to kick-start their play-off campaign back into action this Saturday when they host lowly Carlisle united at Gigg Lane following last weekend’s point against League Two leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

A 1-1 draw with The Chairboys was a great result for Bury who have now lost just once in their last five league matches which includes wins over Northampton Town and Mansfield Town along with draws against York City and Wycombe. Their defeat during this sequence was a 1-0 loss away at Dagenham, but they’ll certainly be eyeing off all three points this afternoon against struggling Carlisle.

Bury’s home record is still a pretty strong one which stands at  8-2-3  22/13 and they’ve won four of their seven encounters against bottom half opposition at home so far this season.

Onto the visitors Carlisle United, and two recent wins (away at Morecambe and AFC Wimbledon) have been sandwiched with three straight defeats to York City, Newport County and Cambridge United, so you’re never quite sure which Cumbrians outfit you’re going to get from week to week.

These recent wins have been enough for Carlisle to climb out of the bottom two but they still remain just one point ahead of second from bottom club Dagenham & Redbridge, so they’re certainly not out of the woods yet.

Carlisle’s away record stands at  3-1-9  13/25 and only Accrington Stanley and Hartlepool United (26 goals) have conceded more away goals than The Cumbrians away from home in League Two to date. In addition, Carlisle have kept just three clean sheets on their travels and have conceded 2 goals or more on seven occasions from 13 away matches.

Bury need to be winning these sort of games if they’re to break into the play-off pack and I’ll back them to do so by perhaps a 1-0 margin here.

Pick: Bury straight win @ 1.80 Coral
