Relegated Cagliari will be keen to end their disappointing season on a high note tonight despite bowing out of the Italian top flight when they take on Udinese this evening.
A narrow 1-0 win at Cesena last weekend wasn’t enough to keep them in the hunt to avoid the drop to Serie B, and indeed they posted three wins from their last six matches of the season but the damage had been done during a very lean period between February, March and much of April where they lost nine of eleven matches played during that period.
Cagliari’s overall home record stands at 3-4-11 20/33 and they have the dubious honour of conceding the most number of goals at home in Serie A this season to date. In fact, Cagliari have kept just one clean sheet at home this term which was a 4-0 win over Parma, but they’ve failed to score just twice from their last eleven home matches which is also encouraging for my selection.
Udinese have also experienced a somewhat different season this term from a couple of campaigns ago where they finished in fifth place, as they finished dangerously close to the relegation zone this time around.
The visitors are currently in 16th place and have a ten-point cushion over third from bottom club Cagliari who they face today, but their away record hasn’t been great all season. An away record of 4-6-8 14/23 tells its own story but they’ve lost their last three on the trot overall with defeats to Sampdoria, Roma and Sassuolo.
Udinese will also be keen to end their disappointing campaign with a much-needed three points here, and with the likes of forwards Di Natale (14 goals) and Thereau (9 goals) up front, I fancy them to notch here tonight.
