Football – Italy – Serie A

Monday 3rd November 2014 – Kickoff: 1900hrs

Cesena go into tonight’s bottom half clash with Hellas Verona on the back of three straight defeats which has left them scrapping it out in the bottom three of the Italian Serie A.

Straight defeats against Palermo, Inter Milan and Wednesday night’s 0-2 loss away at Roma means they currently occupy a precarious second from bottom position in the division, and they’re now without a win from their last eight Serie A matches.

Cesena’s only win so far this term was in their season opener at home against Parma where they squeezed out a narrow 1-0 win but that has been their only success to date which was back in September, and that seems a long time ago now.

Cesena’s home record stands at  1-2-1  4/4 but they’ve managed just one home win from their last fourteen on home turf at this level.

Visitors Hellas Verona started their Serie A campaign in solid fashion as they were unbeaten in their first four matches which included wins over Palermo and Torino along with points against Atalanta and Genoa in 0-0 and 2-2 draws respectively.

However, since the opening weeks, Hellas Verona have managed just one more win which came against Cagliari in a 1-0 home win, but defeats against Roma, AC Milan and Napoli have resulted in Verona slipping down the table.

Those three defeats were against tough opposition though, and Verona bounced back last week with a point against Lazio in a 1-1 draw at home, and with a trip to second from bottom Cesena, they’ll feel they could get something out of this encounter.

Cesena’s poor form on the back of three straight defeats gives Hellas Verona a decent chance of getting something out of this match, and I reckon backing the visitors with the round ball is a decent bet for this clash – Hellas Verona could grind out a 1-0 win perhaps.
