CHELTENHAM v YORK – Pick: 1 AH0 – 01 November 2014

Robins to fend off Minstermen at Whaddon Road

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 1st November 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Although Cheltenham Town had a 0-3 defeat inflicted upon them away at sixth placed Plymouth Argyle last Saturday, The Robins now return back to their Whaddon Road ground this weekend where they’ll be confident of getting something out of their clash with York City.

Prior to their defeat at Plymouth, Cheltenham had put together back-to-back wins over Northampton Town (home) and Cambridge United (away) but had lost at Shrewsbury Town and although their away results have been a little erratic, their form on home turf has been pretty solid all season.

An overall home record of  3-3-1  8/6 should again keep them out of trouble here today, and with wins over Accrington Stanley, Hartlepool united and Northampton Town, they’ve proved they have a good record over bottom half opposition.

Visitors York City find themselves precariously perched just above the bottom two in League Two after a run of nine league matches without a win. Their last win was a 3-2 win at Stevenage back in September but since then, The Minstermen have lost five and drawn four overall, with the fall-out resulting in former manager Nigel Worthington being sacked.

On the road, York have failed to win in their last four on their travels and have lost three of these with defeats at Burton Albion, Dagenham & Redbridge and Newport County (scoring 1 goal but conceding 7 over these three losses), while they did manage a point at Morecambe in a 1-1 draw last time out.

York’s overall away record stands at a below-par  1-3-3  7/12.

Cheltenham Town are a hard nut to crack on their Whaddon Road ground, and I fully expect the hosts to at least avoid defeat here this afternoon. The number of draws for both sides means that I’ll be leaning towards the round ball on Cheltenham Town, but they might edge it perhaps 1-0.
