CHESTER v WREXHAM – Pick: 2 – 22 September 2014

Dragons to slay Chester in derby

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Monday 22nd September 2014 – Kickoff: 2000hrs

Monday night brings us a local derby in the Conference Premier with visitors Wrexham making the short trip up the A483 to Chester where they’ll be looking to continue their impressive away form.

Looking at Chester first though, and they’ve produced some mixed results of late with defeats to Gateshead, Torquay United and Woking (all of whom reside in the top five of the Conference Premier), and three points for Wrexham tonight would see them jump into fourth place, so Chester have their work cut out here tonight.

But despite also losing to Barnet 0-5 and Halifax 0-3, Chester have managed two wins so far this season on home soil with wins over Macclesfield Town 1-0 and Southport 2-0 while their overall home record stands at  2-0-3  3/10. It’s worth pointing out here that only Alfreton Town (11) and AFC Telford (14) have conceded more goals than Chester at home in the division to date.

Onto visitors Wrexham now and they currently sit in 10th place in the division, but as mentioned earlier, a win tonight for the Dragons would see them jump into fourth place. Wrexham are fresh from back-to-back wins too as they saw off Welling United 2-1 at home and then registered an impressive midweek 1-0 win at Barnet last Tuesday.

In fact, Wrexham’s away form has been impressive so far having won four of their first five on the road with wins at Dartford, Alfreton Town, Forest Green and Barnet with an overall record of  4-0-1  7/4 – their one defeat so far coming at Bristol Rovers who are still unbeaten at the Memorial Ground.

Striker Louis Moult (5 goals) looks the best anytime goalscorer option for the visitors, and despite it’s local derby status, I’ll back Wrexham to grab the points here given their strong performances on their travels so far. Wrexham could sneak this perhaps 1-0.
