With just one home win in the Italian Serie A from their last seven matches on home turf, hosts Chievo Verona could be up against it when they entertain high-flying AS Roma in Sunday afternoon’s clash.
Chievo registered that home win over Sampdoria in a recent 2-1 win but it should be noted that Sampdoria currently possess an indifferent record on the road, while today’s visitors Roma are likely to pose a greater threat to the hosts.
Chievo’s recent form has been mixed with wins over Parma away and the Sampdoria win but they’ve also fallen to defeat against Fiorentina, Juventus, Napoli and Empoli while their overall home record stands at a shaky 2-5-6 10/15 with just one win over top half opposition all season.
Onto visitors AS Roma, and they’re currently in second place but some nine points adrift of runaway Serie A league leaders Juventus. Even so, Roma will be keen to maintain, and indeed, build upon their four-point cushion over third placed Napoli.
This match looks the perfect opportunity for Roma to claim all three points particularly having gone seven matches without defeat on their travels recently, along with an overall away record of 6-4-2 14/11.
Amongst their recent wins are victories at Atalanta, Genoa, Udinese and Cagliari along with points at Palermo, Fiorentina and Hellas Verona. They will also have been boosted by holding Juventus to a 1-1 draw last week.
To sum up, I reckon Roma possess greater firepower up front than their hosts today and so I will accordingly back them for the points here in what could be a 1-0 win for the visitors.
