Dagenham & Redbridge play host to struggling York City on Saturday in what has become a ‘must win’ game for The Daggers if they’re to have any chance of keeping the pressure upon the top two clubs, Forest Green Rovers and Lincoln City.
With Forest Green and Lincoln playing each other, the door is still slightly open for Dagenham to take advantage of a potential slip, but only if they manage to take all three points in today’s clash. Following a run of four defeats from their last five matches though, Dagenham will need to really focus today.
Dagenham still possess a reasonable home record of 10-3-6 29/25 though, and their 2-1 home win over National League leaders Forest Green Rovers last time out on home turf will have certainly boosted their confidence ahead of today’s encounter.
Visitors York City are firmly ensconced in the bottom four of the National League and find themselves five points adrift of fifth from bottom club Maidstone United ahead of their long trip down to Essex to take on Dagenham & Redbridge today.
Despite their current lowly position in the non-league top flight, York come into this clash on the back of four league matches without defeat having registered wins over Eastleigh and Southport along with draws against high-flying Lincoln City and Sutton United.
However, the wins were both recorded at their Bootham Crescent ground, while their away record stands at 1-8-9 14/35 but this includes six matches without defeat (five draws and one win).
This match is therefore much closer than many would have predicted a few weeks ago, but I’ll give the quarter-ball on Dagenham here as they kick-start their bid for promotion.
