Doncaster Rovers hold a very useful seven point lead over second placed Plymouth Argyle ahead of this weekend’s League Two action, and Rovers have home advantage at their Keepmoat Stadium again today when they take on bottom half outfit Morecambe.
With five league wins on the trot and an unbeaten run of eight matches overall in the English fourth tier, Doncaster’s prospects look extremely positive for a swift return to League One this season as they top the division with a home record of 11-3-0 29/12.
Rovers have also strung together six home wins on the trot with victories chalked up over Hartlepool United, Leyton Orient, Grimsby Town, Stevenage, Portsmouth and Crewe Alexandra, so Darren Ferguson’s boys will be in confident mood ahead of this encounter too.
Visitors Morecambe have had a far less productive campaign than their hosts as they currently sit in the bottom half of League Two in 17th place as they haven’t been able to put together any sort of winning run at all during this term so far.
Morecambe have lost just once in their last five league matches overall, which was a 3-2 defeat away at Hartlepool United, but recent wins over Mansfield Town and Notts County should give them some hope ahead of their trip to West Yorkshire.
That said, it’s been only one victory on the road from their last six for Morecambe who possess an away record of 5-3-4 17/18, so this fixture may well be a bridge too far for The Shrimpers.
