Dover Athletic suffered defeat away at Torquay United on the weekend losing 2-1 but they return to their Perrys Crabble Stadium on Monday night looking to bounce back against surprise package Aldershot who have made quite a good start to the new season.
For their part, Dover are once again in contention in a top six place right now on the back of recent wins against newcomers North Ferriby United, a useful 4-2 win away at Eastleigh and a 3-1 home win over Barrow, while their early home record stands at 2-0-1 6/5.
Last season, Dover finished up in fifth spot and claimed a play-off place to their credit but lost out to Forest Green Rovers so they’ll be looking to go a step further this term I daresay – and their form on home turf has usually been pretty solid too.
Visitors Aldershot finished last season in a bottom half 15th place in the National League but they currently sit in 7th place in these early stages of the new National League season following a run of three straight home wins over Maidstone United, Wrexham and North Ferriby United.
However, The Shots’ away form continues to be a bit of a concern as they’ve gained just one point on their travels so far this season thanks to a 2-2 draw away at Bromley, but defeats at Barrow and Braintree Town suggest they still have work to do on the road if they’re to improve upon last season’s finish.
Their last visit to the Perrys Crabble Stadium finished in a heavy 5-2 defeat to Dover, and while we may not see a similar scoreline here this afternoon, I do fancy the home side to take the points.
