Fiorentina know they have a great chance to reduce the gap on the top five clubs in the Italian Serie A on Monday night when they prepare for the visit of struggling Sassuolo who find themselves in the bottom half of the division.
The hosts currently occupy 8th place but a win tonight could see them move up into 7th place and as they still remain unbeaten on home turf this season, they look in good shape to get something from tonight’s clash.
A recent six-match unbeaten run was ended in a 4-2 loss away at Inter Milan, but then bounced back on home soil with a 2-1 win over Palermo last weekend amidst an overall record of 3-4-0 6/3. In addition, Fiorentina boast the meanest defence at home in Serie A, while their record against bottom half opposition stands at 2-2-0 5/3.
Visitors Sassuolo are not the side they were last season when they enjoyed a fantastic campaign in the Italian top flight which saw them finish in 6th place in Serie A which earned them a Europa League place.
However, their european involvement this season seems to have had a detrimental effect on the visitors as they have slumped to 15th place, and although they’ve managed five league wins to date, four of these were earned on home turf.
Meanwhile, away from home has seen Sassuolo struggle for points on the road as they’ve picked up just one win on their travels so far this campaign which was an opening day win at bottom club Palermo in a 1-0 victory. But Sassuolo have since crashed to five defeats away from home and face a tough assignment at Fiorentina on Monday night.
