Gefle in better form

Football – Sweden – Allsvenskan

Saturday 19th July 2014 – Kickoff: 1600hrs

Onto the Swedish Allsvenskan now and one of the Saturday fixtures features two teams battling it out in the lower half of the division – hosts Gefle and visitors Halmstad, when the two teams meet at Stromvallen.

Looking at Gefle first, and their recent results suggest that they are more than capable of avoiding a relegation battle with a recent win over fifth placed BK Hacken 1-0 at home along with taking points off Orebro, Djurgarden and away at Helsingborg last time out.

Despite being situated fourth from bottom, their overall home record stands at  2-2-3  7/7 but their one match so far at home against bottom half opposition ended up in a triumphant 3-0 win over Brommapojkarna, and no doubt the hosts will be looking for more of the same again this afternoon.

Onto visitors Halmstad, and they’ve actually registered similar results of late to the hosts Gefle with a 3-0 home win over poor Brommapojkarna, but keep in mind that this was has been their only win in their last nine matches.

Their record on their travels though is certainly poor indeed – just one point from their first seven away matches, courtesy of a draw at Falkenberg last time out but they’d previously suffered six straight defeats with an overall away record of  0-1-6  4/17 going into today’s match.

In addition, they are the second highest conceders of goals away from home in the Allsvenskan (Brommapojkarna are the highest with 19 goals against), and Halmstad hold a  0-1-2  2/4 record away from home at bottom half teams as well.

There’s a fair chance of this ending up a draw, but with the round ball on Gefle’s side I reckon we have a good chance of at least getting our money back with the chance also of a Gefle win. The hosts may take this perhaps 1-0, but I recommend taking the handicap on Gefle.
