GETAFE v DEPORTIVO – Pick: 1 AH-0.25 – 05 April 2015

Getafe could shade goal-shy Deportivo in dour affair

Football – Spain – La Liga

Sunday 5th April 2015 – Kickoff: 1900hrs

Getafe head into Sunday night’s clash with Deportivo La Coruna on the back of two straight defeats, so they’ll no doubt be keen to stem the flow here tonight against a side who have struggled on the road in La Liga.

Recent defeats to Real Sociedad at home (unexpected) and away at Atletico Madrid (expected) have resulted in Getafe slipping down the table to 13th place on 29 points. They remain just four points ahead of Levante in the bottom three, so they should be fired up to get something from tonight’s encounter in order to keep their relegation worries at arms length.

Prior to the Real Sociedad defeat, Getafe had chalked up three consecutive home wins over Celta Vigo, Sevilla and Espanyol (all of whom were placed higher in La Liga than themselves), while their overall home record stands at  5-3-6  11/16.

Deportivo La Coruna have now gone six matches without a win in the Spanish top flight after a dour 0-0 draw at home with Espanyol just before the international break. But defeats to Real Madrid, Celta Vigo, Sevilla and Valencia have prevented them from pulling away from the bottom three and they find themselves just one point ahead of Levante in 18th place.

A recent away win was registered at Rayo Vallecano, but Vallecano have the second worst record with regards to home defeats in La Liga (behind only to Elche with 8), while that success was a rare commodity in their last eleven away matches where they’ve lost six within that sequence.

Deportivo’s away record stands at  2-4-7  6/18 and they’ve failed to score in their last three on the trot, and have failed to score on eight occasions so far this season on their travels.

Deportivo’s seeming inability to score away from home should give the hosts a better than fair chance of getting something here tonight although I do recommend having the draw on your side as much as possible (hence my pick). Getafe could shade this one 1-0 in a low-scoring affair.
