It’s a quick trip over to Switzerland next up with a look at Grasshoppers’ first home match of the season when they take on FC Thun at their Stadion Letzigrund on Saturday evening.
Grasshoppers started their new Super League campaign with a disappointing 0-1 defeat away at FC Zurich, but they get a chance to rectify things on home turf this evening with the visit of FC Thun.
Grasshopper finished in second place at the end of last season seven points behind league title winners Basle and therefore qualified for the Champions League qualifiers with an upcoming two-legged tie against French club Lille next Wednesday night.
The hosts will therefore be looking for a win here today to spark them into life ahead of next week’s important European fixture.
Visitors FC Thun finished last season in a mid-table position in the Super League and their new campaign has started in similar fashion with a home win over Vaduz 1-0 but then went down 1-2 away at FC Zurich on Wednesday night.
They will therefore be relying once again on their home form to keep them away from the bottom half of the division and face a tough road trip away at Grasshoppers tonight. It may be worth noting as well that FC Thun have lost their last three away matches on the trot with additional losses at Sion 1-3 and Luzern 0-3.
Grasshoppers will be looking to bounce back with a win tonight and with home advantage, I’ll back them to win by perhaps a 2-1 margin.
