GRIMSBY v WOKING – Pick: X – 25 November 2014

Mariners draw on The Cards

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Tuesday 25th November 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Second placed Grimsby Town suffered a slightly unexpected 0-2 home defeat to top half Kidderminster at the weekend in the Conference Premier and as a result, the gap between themselves and league leaders Barnet has now increased to nine points.

It was Grimsby’s first league defeat in eight matches, a run which had lifted The Mariners into second spot behind current runaway leaders Barnet, but home form for Grimsby hasn’t been as consistent as manager Paul Hurst would have liked; an overall record at Blundell Park of  5-3-3  17/6 isn’t entirely convincing, especially when you consider they’ve struggled to put the lower half teams away such as Southport 0-1 and Kidderminster 0-2 along with just a point against Altrincham in a 0-0 draw.

Grimsby have won just twice in their last five at home and that was wins over bottom half Dartford who are in the bottom four and poor-travelling Halifax, while The Mariners have drawn a blank in three of these last five matches.

Woking earned a valuable point on Saturday with a 1-1 draw with Conference leaders Barnet, and they now make the trip up north to Cleethorpes on the back of four league matches without defeat. A 3-1 win over Halifax Town at The Shay was accompanied by three draws against Braintree Town, Wrexham and of course Barnet.

On the road, Woking possess the second best record away from home just behind league leaders Barnet in the Conference Premier, having racked up six wins so far on their travels. The Cards’ away record stands at  6-2-2  18/9 and they’ve won three of their last four on their travels with wins at Southport, Altrincham and Halifax Town,

Grimsby, however, are not second in the league for nothing and I suspect they’ll pull their socks up for this vital clash. Meanwhile, Woking have been in good form recently away from home and I can’t rule them out from getting something out of this match. I’ll therefore back the draw here at good odds – could perhaps be a 1-1 draw.
