Fourth placed Heerenveen have enjoyed a pretty decent start to their Dutch Eredivisie campaign so far this season, and no doubt they’ll be keen to assert their authority at home today when they take on bottom half outfit Excelsior at their Abe Lenstra Stadion.
Following a recent run of disappointing results which saw Heerenveen go four league matches without a win (including defeats to Sparta Rotterdam and Ajax), Heerenveen bounced back with a 3-1 win away at Go Ahead Eagles last weekend, so they’ll be looking to build upon that result here.
Back on home turf, Heerenveen hold a decent looking record of 3-3-1 11/7 which includes wins over PEC Zwolle, FC Twente and Heracles, while their record at home against bottom half opposition stands at 1-1-0 3/2.
Visitors Excelsior currently sit in 12th place in the Dutch Eredivisie with four league wins to their name so far this season; however, it needs to be noted that three of these wins came at their Stadion Woudestein with victories gained against Groningen, Heracles and Sparta Rotterdam.
Meanwhile, away from home, and the visitors Excelsior have struggled to put any decent sort of run of results together on their travels amidst an overall record of 1-2-4 7/14 with their one success on the road being a 1-0 win at FC Twente in their first away match of the season.
Excelsior have since slumped to defeats at Feyenoord, Go Ahead Eagles, Ajax and FC Utrecht and so far have failed to keep a single clean sheet on the road this season.
