Last season’s Champions League finalists Juventus will look to embark upon another successful campaign this term when they launch their season off at home to Udinese on Sunday evening.
Despite losing 3-1 in the final to Barcelona, it was a magnificent achievement for the Italian side who had been relegated down to Serie B a few seasons ago as a result of alleged match-fixing. Juventus bounced back in strong fashion though and claimed the Serie A title by a massive 17-point margin ahead of second placed Roma.
But today’s hosts will be looking to replicate this success again this season and with a midfield comprising of Marchisio, Pogba, Khedira and Asamoah along with strikers Mandzukic, Morata and Llorente, Juve look a force to be reckoned with once again.
Visitors Udinese opened their season with a 3-1 home win over Novara in the first round of Coppa Italia but they face a much tougher proposition this evening when they make the trip to Torino. Udinese finished in 16th place last season, seven points above Cagliari who were relegated in the bottom three, and their overall away record finished up on 4-6-9 17/27.
Udinese’s away form ended in a pretty sorry state last season as they won just once on the road in their last nine matches on their travels, which was a 1-0 win at bottom half club Hellas Verona. Incidentally, Udinese were ahead at half-time on just two occasions in their 19 away matches last term.
With this in mind, along with Juventus’ dominance on home turf, I’ll back the hosts to be ahead at half-time and maintain their lead at the end of 90 minutes. Could be a 2-0 win for Juve.
