The Swedish top flight Allsvenskan is underway and it’s a first look at their domestic action in tonight’s clash between early basement dwellers Kalmar and high-flying Malmo who currently top the division.
Kalmar currently occupy bottom place in the Allsvenskan following a dismal start to their campaign which has seen tonight’s hosts pick up just one point from the first possible 12 on offer, thanks to a 1-1 draw away at Hammarby.
But three early defeats from the first four matches of the new season for Kalmar has been a terrible start for them as they’ve suffered defeats to Elfsborg 5-1 at home, a 3-1 loss at home to Jonkopings and Sunday’s 3-0 defeat away at Sirius.
Visitors Malmo are the team to beat once again in this new Allsvenskan season as they currently sit top of the Swedish top flight following three wins and a draw from their first four league matches of the new term.
An opening day 1-1 draw away from home at IFK Gothenborg has been followed up by three straight wins on the trot with victories gained over GIF Sundsvall, Halmstads and Djurgarden to place the away side with 10 points already.
Forward Pawel Cibicki (3 goals) is Malmo’s early leading goalscorer this season, and the visitors should have too much quality in all areas of the pitch here this evening as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Allsvenskan ahead of surprise second placed outfit Sirius.
