Lazio will be wanting to make their home superiority count when they entertain bottom half club Atalanta at their Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening.
Another three points could see Lazio jump as high as third place depending on other results, and following on from their 2-1 win away at Parma last weekend, they’ll now doubt be keen to register back-to-back wins for the first time since the end of October.
Lazio’s home record stands at 4-0-2 12/9 and despite their recent 3-0 defeat to Juventus last time out on home soil, they have previously registered wins against bottom half clubs such as Cesena, Torino and Cagliari, scoring 9 goals and conceding just 3 in the process.
Anytime goalscorers are likely to comprise of midfielder Mauri (4 goals), Dordevic (6 goals) and Klose (3 goals) for the hosts.
Visitors Atalanta currently occupy 14th place in the Italian Serie A but they’ve registered some encouraging results of late as they’ve lost just once in their last six matches (a 2-1 defeat at home to AS Roma which is no disgrace).
However, on the minus side, Atalanta have captured just two wins from their last 12 league matches with both wins coming on their home ground against struggling Parma and Cesena who currently sit bottom and second from bottom respectively in Serie A.
Away from home, Atalanta have won just once so far which was a win at third from bottom club Cagliari but since that rare success, Atalanta have drawn 3 and lost 3 of their preceding six matches on their travels. Their overall away record stands at 1-3-3 2/6 with the alarming statistic of having failed to score in their last six away matches.
The draw seems to be Atalanta’s best bet here, but I reckon it’s worth giving the three-quarter ball on the hosts Lazio to grab the points here in what could perhaps be a 2-0 win for the home side.
