Lazio currently sit third in the Italian Serie A but are just one point adrift of second placed Roma going into this weekend’s round of fixtures.
Following a difficult period where they lost three league matches from four, Lazio have bounced back in triumphant style winning their last five on the trot with wins against Udinese, Palermo, Sassuolo, Fiorentina and Torino which has maintained their bid for an automatic tilt at Champions League football next year.
Lazio’s home form has also been pretty steady in recent weeks having won three of their last four, the only blip coming against Genoa in a somewhat surprising 1-0 defeat, but overall their record stands at 9-0-4 27/13. They’re currently ranked third behind Juventus and Napoli in terms of goals scored at home, while striker Klose and midfielder Mauri look to be the best bets for anytime goalscorers.
Visitors Hellas Verona are unbeaten in their last four as they’ve secured recent wins against Napoli (at home) and away at struggling Cagliari, along with stalemates against Roma and AC Milan which were good results.
However, switching to their away form and we see that they’ve won just once in their last six which was the recent win at Cagliari, but have suffered defeats at Juventus, Palermo and Genoa and another trip away to not only a top half team but a team pressing for second place may be a bridge too far for them this evening.
Hellas’ away record stands at 3-5-6 16/28 with only bottom club Parma conceding more away goals than them this season.
With this statistic in mind, I’ll back the hosts to register a 2-0 win here to cover the asian handicap with perhaps striker Klose notching.
