Lazio recorded a much-needed win on Monday night when they ran out comfortable 4-0 winners away at struggling Palermo, a result which lifted them up into 9th place.
They now have home advantage against visitors and bottom club Sassuolo and they will expect another three points this afternoon despite Lazio’s recent indifferent results. A 3-0 home win over Cesena and Monday’s win at Palermo have been offset by defeats to AC Milan 0-3 away, a 0-1 loss at Genoa, and a home defeat to Udinese – although Udinese are currently flying high in third place at the moment.
Back on home turf, Lazio hold an early overall record of 1-0-1 3/1 but their defeat to Udinese was their first in seven home matches, and they have a great chance today of registering back-to-back wins.
Visitors Sassuolo currently lie bottom of Serie A with just three points to their name, thanks to three draws against Cagliari and Sampdoria at home, along with gaining a point at Fiorentina. They’ve now gone six matches without a win though, and perhaps more worrying, is the fact that they’ve failed to score in three of their last four.
Away from home, Sassuolo suffered a heavy loss against Inter Milan 0-7, but they did get a point at Fiorentina to produce an early away record of 0-1-1 0/7. They do face another tough assignment at Lazio this afternoon though as their hosts ran riot earlier in the week, and you feel that Sassuolo need to score at least one goal to have a chance of getting something at the Stadio Olimpico.
Lazio hit the goal trail on Monday and they’ll be hungry for more today, and as I can’t see Sassuolo creating too many chances here, I’ll back Lazio to cover the -1 line as well. Could be a 2-0 win for the hosts.
