Lokeren will be relieved to be playing back at their Daknamstadion for this evening’s clash with surprise package Oostende in Tuesday night’s only fixture in the Belgian top flight following recent back-to-back defeats.
The hosts have recently been dealt 1-0 and 2-0 losses at Anderlecht and Zulte-Waregem but it should be stored in the memory bank that these losses were incurred against the top two teams in the division and away from home, while they’ll be looking for greater stability on home turf here.
Lokeren’s home form has been up and down so far in this new campaign as they’ve registered wins over Westerlo, Royal Excel Mouscron and Kortrijk but have also experienced defeats to Genk and Standard Liege. But they’ll fancy their chances of getting something against Oostende tonight.
Onto visitors Oostende, and they currently sit in 7th spot in the Belgian Jupiler League which is largely down to their impressive home form which has seen them remain unbeaten on home turf so far this season having won four of their six matches to date along with two draws.
And although Oostende have lost just once in their last five league matches overall, they possess the second worst away record in the top half of the division with a poor away record of 1-1-3 7/9 with their one success coming in a recent 3-2 win at 10th placed Mechelen.
Defeats at Genk, Eupen and Sporting Charleroi show their vulnerability on their travels, and indeed, Oostende have managed just three away wins from their last 16 matches on the road. This therefore should hand the upper hand to the home side who I believe have enough for at least a point here.
