Luton Town go into this afternoon’s home clash with Northampton Town in red-hot form having won seven of their last eight matches, a run which has pushed them up into one of the early automatic promotion spots.
After just one win from their first six matches upon their return to the football league, it looked like John Still’s side were struggling to cope with the step up in division, but an amazing run of eight matches without defeat has so far dispelled the doubts and The Hatters are riding high.
Luton have won their last six league matches on the trot, and at their Kenilworth Road ground they have an overall record of 4-1-2 9/4 and they’ve won their last four on home soil with wins over Cheltenham Town, Oxford United, Southend United and Dagenham & Redbridge (conceding just 1 goal during this run).
Visitors Northampton Town slumped to a third successive League Two defeat on Tuesday night when they went down 1-3 to Oxford United despite taking a 1-0 lead. To then go on and lose 1-3 at home as well can be a big blow for any side, but to have to go to an in-form side like Luton Town the next match can potentially be very damaging.
Northampton had previously lost to Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town and The Cobblers have won just two matches from their last eight with wins over second from bottom club Hartlepool United at home and a 1-0 win at Morecambe.
Their overall away record reads 2-2-3 9/10 and results have been inconsistent on their travels as they’ve beaten Dagenham and Morecambe but lost to Portsmouth, Newport County and Cheltenham Town.
Despite Luton’s fantastic string of wins, I’m a bit hesitant to back them for the straight win here as we all know that good runs come to an end sometime; I’ll therefore hold back and go for the draw no bet option on the hosts who could win this anyway perhaps 1-0.
