Next up is a bottom half clash in League Two between hosts Mansfield Town and visitors York City with Mansfield keen to return to winning ways following last Saturday’s defeat away at bottom club Hartlepool United.
Mansfield went down 1-0 to a spirited Hartlepool outfit who are still fighting for their League Two lives, but The Stags hold a decent record at their One Call Stadium with overall stats of 9-5-5 21/17 and just one defeat in their last seven on home turf.
That loss was to fourth placed Bury but in recent weeks they’ve racked up four wins from their last six with wins over Stevenage, Luton Town, Dagenham & Redbridge and AFC Wimbledon as they’ve hauled themselves out of immediate danger of relegation, being a comfortable eight points clear of second from bottom Cheltenham Town.
York City are without a win from their last four matches as they’ve suffered defeats to AFC Wimbledon and Bury, while taking a point apiece against Carlisle United and Accrington Stanley in 0-0 and 2-2 draws respectively.
York have managed just one win though on their travels in their last seven matches, that being a 3-0 win at Cambridge United at the beginning of March, but defeats away at Southend United, Northampton Town and AFC Wimbledon have resulted in York sitting just two league places and a precarious one point above Cheltenham Town ahead of this weekend’s action.
Given Mansfield’s strong home record this season, considering their current league position, I’ll back The Stags with the attractively priced round ball in case this ends up a draw, but Mansfield stand a good chance of taking all three points in a possible 1-0 victory.
