Millwall extended their impressive recent winning streak to four matches on the weekend by beating Premier League title holders Leicester City at the New Den as their attentions turn back to League One action on Tuesday night against lowly Chesterfield.
Millwall are on the cusp of breaking into the play-off pack as they sit just one place behind Southend United but level on points; Tuesday night presents them with a golden opportunity to leapfrog both Southend United and Bradford City into fifth spot, if they manage to take all three points here.
Millwall have recently posted three victories on the trot with wins over Coventry City, Southend United and Port Vale which has lifted them up into play-off reckoning, while their home record stands at a solid looking 9-4-3 25/12 thanks to winning five of their last six on home turf.
Visitors Chesterfield find themselves in relegation trouble as they lurched to another defeat on Saturday afternoon,losing 2-1 at home to relegation rivals Bury in a real ‘six-pointer’. This defeat leaves Chesterfield second from bottom in League One and seven points adrift of Bury who now occupy the safety position of 20th on the league ladder.
The Spireites have registered just one league win from their last ten matches overall which was a 1-0 home win over seemingly dead and buried Coventry City who now seem resigned to the drop to League Two.
Chesterfield’s away record stands at a woeful 1-3-12 12/30 having lost five of their last six on the road with defeats suffered at Peterborough United, Rochdale, Port Vale, Bradford City and Northampton Town.
This should therefore be a fairly straightforward win for the hosts.
