Football – England – League One Betting Tips

The other play-off semi-final first leg will be between London club Millwall and visitors Scunthorpe United at the New Den this evening with Millwall particularly keen to get a lead on their opponents to take into the second leg on Sunday.

Millwall’s play-off push took a couple of dents in recent weeks as they suffered defeats to Fleetwood Town and Oxford United, but The Lions did manage to bounce back with a 4-3 win away at Bristol Rovers on the last day of the season which confirmed their play-off place by a slender one point margin over seventh placed Southend United.

Millwall finished the season with a good home record of 13-6-4  34/17 losing just once in their last 13 matches at the New Den, but it’s their away record that is the cause of concern for Millwall’s further progression in the play-offs – more on that in the next instalment!

Visitors Scunthorpe United eventually finished in third place in League One, missing automatic promotion by four points to runners-up Bolton Wanderers and they now need to re-focus on the job in hand, which is to get to the play-off final for a tilt at Championship football next season.

Scunthorpe led League One on various occasions throughout the campaign, but it was a terrible loss of form from early February until mid-March which saw The Iron slump to nine league matches without a win, which ultimately did for their chances of automatic promotion.

Away from home, Scunthorpe finished the season with a 10-4-9  34/32 record, but the feature of their results has been their propensity to score and concede on a regular basis on their travels. From a total of 23 away matches, Scunthorpe failed to score just twice, and I believe they’ll be able to hit Millwall on the break here this evening.

Given Millwall’s ordinary away record this season, it’s fair to assume that the hosts will go all out for a win this evening, which will leave gaps for Scunthorpe to exploit.
