The Danish Superliga season commences on Friday night and the opening match of the 2014/15 campaign starts with hosts Nordsjaelland taking on Vestsjaelland at their Farum Park ground.
Nordsjaelland finished in a mid-table position at the end of last season and suffered just one defeat in their last five matches of the campaign which was a 2-4 loss at home to Aalborg who won the Superliga by a margin of six points.
But wins over Copenhagen 1-0 at home along with away wins at Randers and Viborg along with a point against Brondby who finished in fourth place and claimed a Europa League spot in a 2-2 draw, convinces me that they look a reasonable bet first up in this encounter.
Nordsjaelland’s overall home record finished on 8-5-4 25/18 and they’ve won both of their pre-season games recently with wins over Hobro 2-0 and Lyngby 1-0 (both at home).
Visitors Vestsjaelland made a more modest finish to the end of their last season’s campaign in the Superliga as they registered just two league wins in their last eleven matches. This resulted in the Slagelse outfit finishing fourth from bottom amidst a number of stalemates too which is worth taking into account here also.
However, the two wins both came at home while their overall away record last season finished up at 3-10-4 19/23 which emphasises my point about drawn matches!
Vestsjaelland’s pre-season matches have resulted in mixed returns with a win over Lyngby 5-0 away, a draw against OB Odense and a defeat to English outfit Bolton Wanderers 0-1 at home.
With home advantage and being the first home match of the season, I’m expecting Nordsjaelland to be up for this one tonight so I’ll back them to bag an early three points in what could be perhaps a 2-1 win for the hosts.
