OXFORD v TRANMERE – Pick: 1 AH-0.25 – 18 October 2014

U's in better shape than Rovers in basement clash

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 18th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Next up is a real ‘six-pointer’ with the two bottom clubs in League Two in a face-off at the Kassam Stadium where hosts Oxford United take on Tranmere Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

Despite being on the end of a 1-5 thrashing last weekend at Cambridge United, Oxford United will be quietly confident that they can turn things around on home turf this Saturday as they are unbeaten in their last four matches.

Recent wins over Accrington Stanley 3-1 and a 1-0 win over Newport County last time out along with draws against Dagenham & Redbridge and Stevenage have shored things up for The U’s who still occupy second from bottom place in the division but will take heart from their recent performances at home.

Oxford’s overall home record stands at  2-2-2  7/6 with forward Hylton (6 goals) being the most likely anytime goalscorer for the hosts.

Visitors Tranmere Rovers currently sit bottom of League Two but are only one point adrift of today’s opponents Oxford United ahead of this ‘winner takes all’ clash – although this result will not have much (if any) bearing on the final outcome come May next year.

Results-wise though, Tranmere appear to be in worse shape than Oxford United as they’ve lost their last four matches on the bounce in League Two with home defeats against Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle as well as on the road at Carlisle United and Bury.

Tranmere’s overall away record stands at  1-1-4  5/8 and despite starting their season off with a 2-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers, things have rapidly declined since with an additional defeat at Accrington and a point at Hartlepool United as well as the losses at Carlisle and Bury.

Oxford United seem to be in better shape of the two going into today’s clash so I’ll give the quarter ball on them with a view that The U’s may win this 2-1.
