Peterborough United suffered defeat last weekend at the hands of Scunthorpe United at London Road losing 2-0, but this was to be expected as Scunthorpe currently lead League One and are in blistering form right now.
However, Peterborough have a great chance to redeem themselves as they hold home advantage again at London Road as they take on struggling Chesterfield with the hosts looking to hold onto their current play-off position.
Admittedly, Peterborough have had sporadic bursts on home turf as they hold a record of 4-3-3 17/11 so far, but wins over Millwall, Bury, Northampton Town and most notably, Bolton Wanderers, show that The Posh are no push-overs at London Road.
Onto Chesterfield and the visitors currently occupy one of the relegation spots in League One heading into Saturday’s encounter at Peterborough despite recently recording back-to-back wins over MK Dons and Bristol Rovers.
But the cynic in me points out that both of these victories were gained against teams in the bottom half of the division, and The Spireites had previously lost eight league matches on the trot! When looking at Chesterfield’s performances away from home against top half opposition, you’ll find that they hold a rather poor record of 1-0-3 4/6 amidst an overall away record this season of 1-2-7 8/15.
In addition, Chesterfield have kept just one clean sheet on their travels so far this season and this could well be their undoing again today as they take on a free-scoring Peterborough United outfit.
