Depending upon Sunday’s results, 7th placed Platanias will have a good chance of making up ground on the top five of the Greek Super League on Monday evening when they play host to struggling Iraklis at their Dimotiko Stadio Perivolion.
Platanias have won three of their last four league matches overall with wins registered against Panaitolikos, Asteras Tripolis and Veria which has continued their successful campaign in the Greek top flight as they sit in the top half of the division.
In addition, a solid home record of 7-4-1 22/12 and an unbeaten run of nine matches on home turf suggests they could be too strong for visiting Iraklis this evening. Forwards Giakoumakis and Manousos have scored a total of 16 league goals between them so far this season.
Visitors Iraklis sit second from bottom in the Greek Super League following a sequence of eight league matches without a win as they’ve fallen to defeats against Olympiakos, Panionios and Atromitos as well as drawing with Larissa, Kerkyra, AEK Athens, PAOK and Panathinaikos.
It’s perhaps telling that all three of these recent defeats were recorded against them away from home, and with an overall record on the road this season of 1-2-8 5/18, then it’s no surprise they find themselves fighting a relegation battle.
On top of that, Iraklis have lost eight of their last nine matches on their travels ahead of this trip to Platanias, and I can’t see any reason why they shouldn’t be on the end of another loss here this evening!
