It’s another visit to the Parc des Princes on Friday night as hosts and French champions PSG take on Rennes in what could be another ‘exhibition’ match in front of their home fans following Saturday’s 6-0 caning of Caen.
PSG now hold a ridiculously big lead of 27 points over second placed Lyon at the top of Ligue 1 and it seems the French title holders will be wanting to assert their authority on the league for the remainder of this season having already trashed Troyes 9-0, Nice 4-1 and Caen 6-0 in recent weeks.
PSG’s home record stands at 13-3-1 51/12 and they’ve recently beaten Reims 4-1, Nice 4-1 and Caen 6-0 with star striker Ibrahimovic well and truly filling his boots with a haul of 32 goals so far in this campaign. It now appears we may only have a short period in which to take further advantage of Ibrahimovic’s goalscoring talents as he eyes a possible move to the Premier League.
Visitors Rennes have produced a pretty solid season in this Ligue 1 campaign as they currently sit in a very creditable 7th place in the French top flight but they head to Paris on the back of three league matches without a win having lost to Nice and Guingamp along with a draw against Monaco.
Rennes’ away record also stands at a very reasonable 7-6-4 27/23 but they’ve produced mixed results in recent times as they’ve recorded wins at Toulouse and Marseille along with defeats at Caen and Nice (incidentally, two teams that PSG have recently trashed), so tonight’s visitors may well have their work cut out this evening.
PSG’s firepower should prove too strong for Rennes tonight.
