SHREWSBURY v BURTON – Pick: X – 29 November 2014

Shrews and Brewers to share the spoils in top table clash

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 29th November 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Shrewsbury’s run of six straight wins in League Two came to an abrupt end at St James’ Park last weekend when they lost 2-3 at Exeter City but they still remain just two points adrift of joint league leaders Wycombe Wanderers and Burton Albion.

The Shrews still remain unbeaten at their Greenhous Stadium so far this season, but that record could be put to the test this afternoon when they host Burton Albion under the guidance of new boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Shrewsbury hold an almost perfect home record of  8-1-0  21/3 dropping just two points off the maximum 24 on offer, and they’ve won their last four on the trot against Cheltenham Town, Bury, Portsmouth and Mansfield Town.

The attacking trio of Clark, Collins and Akpa-Akpro will need to be watched closely by the visitors if they’re to get anything from this match.

Onto Burton Albion then, and as mentioned they recently installed new manager Hasselbaink at the helm of the Pirelli Stadium following Gary Rowett’s departure to Championship club Birmingham City. And Hasselbaink couldn’t have wished for a better start to his English managerial career as The Brewers have registered back-to-back wins over promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers (3-1 away) and last weekend’s 1-0 home win over Luton Town.

They face another tough assignment this afternoon though against a Shrewsbury side yet to taste defeat on home turf, while Burton’s away record stands at  5-1-3  14/14 with three wins and three defeats in their last six on the road.

Forwards MacDonald, Akins, Blyth and McGurk are also dangerous customers and they will surely test Shrewsbury’s miserly defence this afternoon.

Shrewsbury’s form at home and Burton’s form since Hasselbaink has taken over are both running red-hot and I wouldn’t be surprised if these two sides cancel each other out in a score-draw, perhaps even 2-2.
