SHREWSBURY v YORK – Pick: 1 AH-0.75 – 18 April 2015

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 18th April 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Shrewsbury Town’s impressive six-match winning streak came to an abrupt end on Tuesday night when they were beaten 1-0 away at Bury and they are now two points behind League Two leaders Burton Albion as a result.

However, Shrewsbury return to their Greenhous Stadium fortress this Saturday where they’ve lost just once all season, and with a formidable record of  16-4-1  42/9 behind them this afternoon, they look obvious favourites for all three points against a struggling York City outfit.

The Shrews have won their last three at home on the trot with wins over Oxford United, Dagenham & Redbridge and Exeter City (all to nil as well), with their one defeat being against Northampton Town in early March which has been their only aberration so far.

The attacking trio of Collins, Mangan and Akpa-Akpro are a constant threat to any defence and York are sure to be no exception.

Onto the visitors then, and York City have undergone something of a revival as they’ve gone unbeaten in their last six matches, having won four of them and two draws. The wins have come against Mansfield Town, Cheltenham Town, Hartlepool United and Morecambe although three of these four wins have been on home turf.

Flick over to their away form and you’ll see The Minstermen have registered just two victories on the road in their last nine matches on their travels, while their overall away record stands at  6-8-7  29/28.

Even so, York are never an easy team to break down and their current run of form has guided them away from any relegation dangers this season.

Shrewsbury though, have home advantage and a potent forward line at their disposal but with York’s recent revival I’ll back the hosts and give the three-quarter ball to limit any potential damage. The Shrews should win this one perhaps 1-0 or 2-0.
