Southend United are currently enjoying an eight-match unbeaten run in League One and they’ll certainly fancy their chances of extending this to nine games when they play host to struggling Coventry City at Roots Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Four wins and four draws have made up this solid run of form for The Shrimps as they now sit in 10th place with a much improved home record of 4-4-2 14/11 to their name. Southend are also unbeaten in their last seven on home turf having recently accounted for the likes of Millwall, Oxford United, Chesterfield and Bradford City.
Southend are also unbeaten at home when facing bottom half opposition as they hold a record of 1-4-0 5/4 and although they’ve probably drawn too many matches for their liking in these situations, they certainly shouldn’t lose today!
Visitors Coventry City by contrast hold a rather poor record away from home against top half teams in League One so far this season with a record of 0-1-3 2/8 in addition to the Sky Blues having lost their last three league matches on the trot with defeats to Oxford United, Bolton Wanderers and MK Dons.
Coventry did manage to put a couple of results together recently as they defeated Oxford United, Rochdale and Chesterfield but gaining results away from home has been their major problem throughout this season so far.
An away record of 1-2-7 7/18 tells its own story, and the midlands club will do well to get anything out of a much improved Southend United outfit here this afternoon.
