Sparta Prague have the chance of putting some very valuable daylight between themselves and third placed Slovan Liberec when these two teams clash at the Generali Arena and the hosts currently hold a four-point lead over today’s visitors.
Sparta Prague have lost just twice in their last 13 league matches overall in the Czech Republic top flight which were losses to Slovacko and Viktoria Plzen, but their overall form on home turf this season has been excellent as their record of 12-0-1 33/9 reflects.
Defeat last time out on home turf to aforementioned Viktoria Plzen ended a run of 12 straight home wins, but they’ll fancy their chances of taking advantage of Slovan Liberec’s distinctly average record away from home.
Onto Slovan Liberec then, and they sit in third spot in the Synot Liga and four points adrift of their hosts Sparta Prague on the back of five straight wins overall. Recent victories over Bohemians, Sigma Olomouc, Vysocina, Banik Ostrava and Brno have set them up for at least a Europa League spot for next season.
But with an average away record of 5-4-4 16/15 that started badly, they’ve pulled their socks up in recent weeks on their travels as they’ve won their last four on the trot on the road.
But it does remain to be seen whether they can cope with Sparta Prague here today as the Czech Republic domestic season reaches it’s pointy end of the campaign.
