Swindon Town could overhaul MK Dons at the top of League One this evening if they manage to continue their return to winning ways when they entertain Doncaster Rovers at the County Ground today.
Swindon currently sit in second place just one point behind The Dons thanks to a dramatic resurgence in form which has seen The Robins register straight wins against Preston North End, Bristol City, Peterborough United, Fleetwood Town and last weekend’s 3-0 win at Notts County.
Even more impressive is that all of those wins came against top half opposition and they conceded just one goal in the process. Swindon’s home form reads 6-3-1 20/11 and they’ve won their last three on the bounce at the County Ground, all to nil.
Swindon’s attacking trio of Williams, Smith and Obika should all be considered for anytime goalscorer options.
Visitors Doncaster Rovers have managed just one league win from their last five as they make the long trio down south to try and halt Swindon’s gathering momentum. That win came away at Rochdale in an unexpected 3-1 win but they lost last week at home to fellow strugglers Gillingham so it’ll be interesting to see how they cope with swindon’s firepower today.
Doncaster’s away record stands at 5-2-3 14/14 and they’re unbeaten in their last four with wins at Bradford City and Rochdale along with holding both Crewe Alexandra and Barnsley to 1-1 draws. However, this afternoon’s match represents a real test for Donny as they look to pull away from the bottom four in the division.
Despite Doncaster’s wins on the road, I fancy Swindon today on home turf and their attacking trio to overpower the visitors in what could perhaps be a 2-1 win for the hosts.
