TAMWORTH v WREXHAM, Betting Pick 2, 14 January 2012

Wrexham looking to reclaim top spot against Lambs

National League Tips

Blue Square Premier

Saturday 14th January 2012 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

Mid-table Tamworth take on second placed Wrexham at The Lamb Ground on Saturday afternoon as they seek their first win in five matches.

Tamworth have not enjoyed a good end to 2011 suffering three straight losses at the hands of Forest Green, Luton Town and perhaps most damagingly, Alfreton Town. This mini period saw them concede 11 goals whilst scoring just 4 themselves.

The Lambs’ home record stands at a credible  6-4-2  19/13, with recent wins over Hayes & Yeading and Braintree Town, but they could only manage a 2-2 draw with cash-strapped Kettering Town. I think it’s also worth noting that Tamworth lost 1-3 at home to Luton Town in mid-December and have historically struggled against top six teams (home and away).

Forward iyseden Christie (9 goals) heads their scoring charts and is backed up by Kieron St Aimie (7 goals) while midfielder Danny Thomas (2 goals, 3 assists) has been the main provider for the front two.

Wrexham travel to the midlands on the back of five successive league wins and will be aiming to make it six on the trot as they now sit in second place behind Fleetwood Town who have swept aside all who have dared challenge them recently.

The Dragons have been clinical lately themselves with wins over Darlington, Southport, Gateshead and Telford home and away over the Christmas period.

Their away record stands at an impressive  8-3-1   21/7, and are unbeaten in their last eight league matches on the road. The welsh outfit also beat Tamworth earlier in the season at the Racecourse ground 3-0.  In addition they also possess the best defence away from home, conceding just 7 goals and keeping three clean sheets in the process.

Leading scorer is Jake Speight (11 goals, 5 assists) along with Mathias Pogba (7 goals, 3 assists), Andrew Morrell (5 goals, 3 assists) and midfielder Adrian Cieslewicz (4 goals, 3 assists) while Curtis Obeng has chipped in with 4 assists.

Time to go all out again in this one and I’ll back Wrexham to do the business at Tamworth today in their bid to reclaim top spot – Wrexham to win 2-1.
