Match 15 of the Copa America brings us an intriguing clash between Uruguay and Paraguay in Group B in La Serena with the winner guaranteed a place in the knock-out rounds.
With the later game featuring Argentina and bottom team Jamaica, both Uruguay and Paraguay will no doubt be keen to get something from this match with Argentina seemingly guaranteed to emerge from Group B as the winners of the group.
Uruguay, without the mercurial Suarez up front in attack, have struggled so far in the tournament as they edged a narrow 1-0 win over whipping-boys Jamaica, but lost 1-0 to Argentina. They therefore sit in third place with three points to their name but a draw tonight may not do them any favours.
Paraguay are perhaps surprisingly joint-top of Group B with group favourites Argentina despite being tagged as the third best team in the group before the Copa America started. But a fine fightback in the opening group match against Argentina saw them earn a point in a dramatic 2-2 draw which was then followed up with a 1-0 win over Jamaica.
They now face what seems a stronger team on paper in Uruguay, but Paraguay’s morale is high following the two recent results, and their destiny is in their own hands as they only need to avoid defeat here to progress to the knock-out stages.
This could be a cagey old affair, but I’ll back Paraguay to dig deep here and deny Oscat Tabarez’s team by stealing another point here – could be a 1-1 or 0-0 draw.
