Wings to edge Kent clash tonight

Welling United will be in buoyant mood ahead of tonight’s clash against fellow Kent outfit Dartford after their resounding 4-0 victory away at Altrincham on Saturday, and another three points tonight could see them lift up into just below mid-table.

Despite their bottom half position of 16th place, Welling have won three of their last five with wins over Braintree Town 2-1 at home, a 2-0 win over Lincoln city and the Altrincham result away from home on the weekend. They also held fifth placed Gateshead to a 1-1 draw recently, and their overall home record has been steady at  2-4-0  8/5.

The Wings still remain unbeaten at home and given Dartford’s poor away record to date, they will be eyeing off all three points this evening.

Onto Dartford then, and they are situated two places but just one point adrift of their opponents tonight, but as mentioned, their form on their travels has been unconvincing to say the least.

That said, they did actually secure their first win on the road on Saturday when they beat struggling Nuneaton Town 2-1, but that rare win ended a run of eight matches without success which included  six defeats. Was the win at Nuneaton Town the start of a revival on the road for Dartford?

An overall away record of  1-1-4  4/10 suggests that they’re unlikely to repeat Saturday’s feat, but it’ll be interesting to see how they fare in their second away match on the trot here, considering their previous four away defeats on the bounce prior to the Nuneaton result.

Welling with home advantage certainly hold the edge here, and I expect them to take the points in perhaps a 2-1 win, but I recommend an element of caution and give the quarter ball on the hosts given Dartford’s win on Saturday.
