Wycombe Wanderers posted a second successive win in League Two during midweek with a 1-0 home win over Cambridge United which has lifted them to the top of the division with another home match in prospect this afternoon against Northampton Town.
The previous weekend, Wycombe had earned a valuable three points away at Exeter City in a 2-0 win, and with an early overall home record of 3-1-1 8/4, the Chairboys look set for another three points here this afternoon. Wycombe’s only aberration so far was a 2-1 loss to Plymouth Argyle who are also in contention for promotion.
Wycombe’s form at Adams Park is generally pretty steady though as they’ve lost just twice in their last nine on home turf and have beaten Hartlepool, York and Cambridge United so far this term.
Northampton Town earned a solid point on the road during the week with a 1-1 draw away at AFC Wimbledon which has extended The Cobblers’ unbeaten run to four matches and has lifted them up into 10th place in League Two.
Earlier wins over Oxford United and Morecambe along with a point against Leyton Orient have improved Chris Willders’ side’s chances of challenging for a play-off spot, but their form on the road will need to continue if this is going to be the case.
Northampton’s early away record stands at 2-2-1 7/6 which includes wins at newly promoted Bristol Rovers and Morecambe, but it’ll be interesting to see how they fare against one of the better sides in the division here today.
I’ll back Wycombe here today, but I advise giving the quarter-ball in case this ends up a draw and in this case we only lose half our stake. Could be a mother 1-0 win for the hosts though.
